This study is based on a questionnaire survey asking for chronic prescription slip service in community pharmacy on 1091 patients who are older than 65-year-old, focusing on the needs for integrated pharmaceutical care. In this survey, hypertension occupied the largest proportion (67.6 %) in chronic prescriptions and 43.9 % of the patients had two or more chronic diseases. More than 80 % of the patients want the pharmacists to sort out the multiple medications for them. About 70 % of the patients need the pharmacists to evaluate the way and time of taking medicine for them and to provide the significant information about the food and drug interaction, and also the way to prevent side effects. Around 80 % of the patients are willing to measure blood pressure and take blood sugar tests regularly on their own followed by passing the results to the pharmacists to evaluate the effectiveness of medication. About 50.4% of the patients wish the pharmacists to print out the results of evaluation to the doctors as references for the next prescription. 87 % of the patients are willing to get the integrated pharmaceutical care at community pharmacy with the expense paid by the health insurance or elderly welfare budget. About 40% of the patients who are older than 81-year-old or who get more than three prescriptions per month don’t think that they need the service about the prescription provided by pharmacists probably due to their experience from the regularly prescriptions. However, we are not sure whether their knowledge is correct or not and it needs further evaluation.

Abstract
Study on investigation of consumers’ needs for integrated pharmaceutical care
Kuei Nu WU* Ming Cho LAI* Hsien Tang CHEN Mao Lang LU Wan Nan YU
Quality Improvement for Pharmaceutical Affairs Association, Taiwan
Regarding the integral need of professional services from dispensing to pharmaceutical caring, this research investigates 1091 patients who are over 65 years old and have been buying medicines for chronic diseases from local pharmacies in every city.
The result demonstrates that in all the chronic diseases, the most often prescribed medicine is high blood pressure, 67.6%; prescription that combines more than two sorts is about 43.9%. Over 80% of the patients are willing to accept the help from the pharmacist to rearrange and manage various medicines for them. 70% of the patients hope that the pharmacist can evaluate the appropriate time and way of taking medicine, the precautions for consuming different supplements or food at once, and the health related side-effects from taking medicines. Approximately 80% are willing to measure blood pressure, blood sugar etc. regularly and are willing to hand over the medicines that they are currently taking to pharmacies for further examination and evaluation of their curative effect. 50.4% wish the pharmacy to print out the results of evaluated curative effect for patients to present them to their doctors as a reference for the next prescription. 87.0% hope to be continually taking care of the medicine consuming related problems in the pharmacy and the fee to this event can be arranged into Old people’s welfare and therefore paid in advance by the government or by health insurance. 40% of those who are over 81 years old and have more than 3 prescriptions every month think that there is no need to have a pharmacist to provide pharmaceutical precaution services. This is probably due to the regular use of fixed products and hence they have already gained sufficient experiences from them. However, whether their perceived knowledge is correct or not is worth to have further evaluation.
